The Hurdles in Your Path
— A short fiction
On an old occasion, a lord had his men place a gigantic rock in the middle of a street. He then hid in the bushes and watched to see if anyone would move the stone out of the way.
Some of the lord's wealthiest merchants and retainers passed by and simply walked around it. Many blamed the ruler for not keeping the roads clear, yet none of them did anything to remove the rock.
One day, a worker came along carrying vegetables. Upon reaching the rock, he set down his load and tried to push the stone out of the way. After a great deal of effort, he finally managed to move it.
When the worker returned to collect his vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the rock had been. Inside were many gold coins—along with a note from the King saying the gold was for the person who removed the rock from the road.
The Moral:
Every obstacle we come across presents a chance—a chance to improve our situation. So, see each hurdle as a stepping stone to success.
