I’ll Take Real Jesus Over Modern Jesus

Modern Jesus is a bit of a dick

At least that’s how he’s being portrayed.

And no, I don’t mean by the uber-liberal media that want to lead your children astray. I’m talking about conservative evangelicals. They’ve made Jesus into a huge homophobic, bigoted, small-minded dick.

But Real Jesus isn’t that way.

First-century Jesus was an open-minded, compassionate guy. He broke some serious first-century cultural rules. He befriended the outliers, turned water into wine, stayed up all night (ok that was usually for prayer), went to dangerous places, broke Jewish religious laws, called religious people names, and literally flipped out at the temple.

If first-century Jesus showed up today, he would be hanging out with LGBTQIA. He might show up at group meditations. He would be throwing down some crazy truth that would make modern evangelicals cringe.

He would tell Ted Cruz to quit being a selfish prick, and might even bitch slap MTG.

Ok, he probably wouldn’t resort to violence, but it’s fun to imagine.

Unfortunately, most Christians haven’t considered how Jesus might behave in today’s culture because they aren’t critical thinkers, and they don’t read their Bibles.
