“Lara, what the heck was all that?” Papa said.
“All what?” She barely wanted to talk about it. About anything.
“We’re being drenched here. Let’s find that lab you talked about.” It was Raul.
Thank God Raul had the presence of mind to say something practical. It was what they all needed. A purpose. Not the purpose, but a purpose. It was the best that they could do in that moment.
“Can you lead us back? And where are all the bad guys?” They looked around. Lara and the others saw no one, no one at all. It felt like the army base was deserted.
“Yes. Let’s get our gear.” They saw all of their supplies, strewn around them. Thankfully, they were wearing their new clothes from the Tibetan cave. But what good were the new outfits if they got soaking wet?
They donned some rain gear and hastily ate a few bites. Grateful for attending to some basic needs, and not having to ponder what it means to leave time and this world behind. The lab. They had to switch their focus to the lab.
