Ranking Free Accommodation Sites For NZ Travelers

I’ve been traveling around New Zealand on my own for 5 months now. Though very little planning went into my trip, I did recognize the importance of finding a way to have my accommodations taken care of for free. During my time traveling, I’ve used three different platforms to score free accommodations: Trusted Housesitters, Workaway, and Kiwi House Sitters.

Trusted Housesitters

This was the first site I signed up for back in June 2023. I thought that pet-sitting would be the best way to go for accommodations. I love animals and would be more than happy to spend my entire time in New Zealand hanging out with people’s pets.

Price

I paid 169 USD for a year to use the site. I did opt to pay for the “standard sitter” which is a tier up from the “basic sitter” plan which was 129 USD. This makes it by far the most expensive platform of the three to use.

Finding Accommodations

Sits were far and few between on Trusted Housesitters. I signed up in June thinking that it would give me a sufficient amount of time to find accommodations and get everything planned out.
