Why Comparing Is the Fastest Way to Lose Yourself
How It Warps Self-Worth
We were catching up after months, my old friend. The conversation flowed like it always does when you reconnect after a long gap, bits of nostalgia, updates on life, and random observations.
Somewhere in the middle, I casually asked, “Hey, why don’t you have an Instagram account?”
Her answer came without hesitation, “I don’t like it. Everyone just shows off their success and travel stories. It makes me feel like I’m not doing enough.”
Her words lingered with me even after the call ended.
I didn’t fully agree with her — after all, some people post to share joy, some to create content, and some to simply document their memories. But I understood her point.
Because comparison doesn’t wait for logic.
It slips in quietly and says,
“Look at them. And now… look at you.”
The Trap of Comparison
Comparison can be sneaky. You might just be sipping your tea, scrolling casually, and then — bam!
You see someone launching a business, moving abroad, or running a marathon.
