Rocking, Rolling, and Running the Vegas Strip at Night

Who wouldn’t want a wind-blown, run-through wedding?

Elvis ran past me.

Clad in a white jumpsuit from the “Fat Elvis” era, I noted that this speedy version of The King appeared quite fit beneath all those sequins.

And just then — whoosh!

A gust of wind, so strong that even the hair oil on his slick black pompadour couldn’t stop it from standing straight up.

Turning my head from the wind’s impact, I spied a woman running in plumes of feathers — and not much else.

It was evident that what happens in a showgirl’s costume doesn’t always stay in a showgirl’s costume.

At least not when running the Strip at night during the Rock ’n’ Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon.

The saying goes that if one remembers the details of a trip to Vegas, it wasn’t done right.

But my 58th birthday trip? I’ll never forget it thanks to the 13.1 miles I ran on the Strip in wet, windy, cold conditions surrounded by newlyweds, costumed crazies, and nearly naked showgirls. Yeah baby, yeah!
