It Doesn’t Matter How Good You Are If No One Knows About You
The mistake I used to make
The title sounds grim, I know.
But it’s true.
I made this very mistake. I thought that I just needed to be good enough and people would scramble all over me.
I was wrong.
Medium taught me you need to get noticed
I realized this through Medium. I used to publish everyday with articles that I thought were thought-provoking.
Nothing.
No one cared. But the real reason was because they didn’t come across any of my articles. I got a couple of views here and there, but nothing significant. So I Googled. I Googled how to get better at writing articles on Medium. I Googled the characteristics of a great article.
But I came across an idea. It said that you need to find publications. Without them, you might as well not publish at all. Cool, I’ll try that. So I did, and it worked wonders.
My view count per article shot up from 2–3 to 20–30. Still not much, but enough to excite the beejesus out of me. I still published on my own, but started to submit articles to many publications.
