What is Psychotherapy and How Does it Work?
The mystery of therapy explained.
My school never offered classes on how to become a healthy, functioning adult one day.
I learned math (painfully struggled through it), reading, and but lacked access to a curriculum with comprehensive guidance on how to develop character and self-knowledge.
There were no classes on how to individuate in a way that served the discovery of self or gave me helpful insights about why I was the way I was.
This was by no means the fault of my school teachers.
They were already burdened by the massive undertaking to guide the generation’s youth through a failing education system, attempting to shape minds while facing increasing , piss-poor salaries, lacking resources, and bullsh*t.
Instead, it was far more likely the result of a collective value system that didn’t, and still doesn’t, see the point in teaching individuals philosophical and emotional self-inquiry from childhood.
The emphasis was not on developing emotional intelligence or contributing to society through a feeling of meaningful, shared purpose, but rather on being practical, making money, and becoming useful, typically to the benefit of someone else.
