Joe finds out more than he bargained for about his wife
The series:
My world had been ripped out from under me, what with my wife being auctioned off for God knows what activities with the winner. And she was everyone’s favorite, apparently, whatever the fuck that meant.
Still, I managed to keep some modicum of wits about me, as no one seemed to notice my complete shock and associated double-take as I confirmed that it was her.
She didn’t seem to see me, which wasn’t surprising considering the size of the space and the number of people, along with the fact that I was in the back where it was darker.
“Let’s get the bidding started, shall we?”
I had to admit that I was impressed at the number they started out at, and more impressed as it kept climbing. There were a lot of implications that I didn’t really want to tease out of that in the moment.
Maybe I was mistaken. Maybe this woman was my wife’s twin out in the world. Maybe she had an actual twin.
