Welcome to Alethiology!

Alethiology is a term from ancient times describing the nature of truth and the uncommon inward journey one takes in lifelong pursuit of it. True to our name we are a publication for readers and writers seeking to explore introspective and profound truths as we weave our way through life on the journey to know ourselves.

One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making darkness conscious.

-Carl Jung

The culmination of our life’s work, our reason for existing, surviving, and growing through the pains that pressure us to change is who we become through it all. Here we sift through those catalyzing moments for the recondite truths that lead us through our becomings and lay them bare for ourselves and others.

We are a carefully curated collection of eloquent and provocative reflections, distilling meaning reaped from becomings and unbecomings. Exploring our dissolutions and evolutions across all genres through metaphor, symbolism, and poetic prose from a place of powerful vulnerability and truth.

Valuing quality over quantity, we seek intermediate to advanced writers who are deeply reflective with the capacity for captivating and compelling storytelling as they weave their way through the labyrinth of their consciousness and take us on voyages of becoming.

We crave narratives that transport us, challenge our perceptions, and leave an indelible mark on our souls. Here we honor the pains of growth, moving through suffering, and the questing of our spirit as an impetus to examine and expand ourselves as we travel across the thread of life that brings us closer to our sacred selves. Here is a Friend Link to view the rest of the article.

We are looking for exceptional and extraordinary truths revealed through wayward journeys. In this way, we hope to be a reliquary of alchemical truths.

Write For Us:

We want to support and showcase writers who take time in crafting their work. Writers who are intentional with every word. Writers who do not sacrifice quality for quantity. Writers who understand the artistic aesthetics of visually compelling images, as much as they do metaphor, symbolism, and poetic prose. Writers who bleed through their pieces, infusing them with love and soul. Writers who take pride in the finished product as a piece of art that both guides and moves the reader through a journey of rare and yet universal truths.

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

— Carl Jung

Requirements

  1. Followers of our publication.
  2. All photos whether the author’s, AI-generated, or from free resources like Pexels, Unsplash, or Pixbay must be credited in accordance with Medium’s policies.
  3. Intermediate to advanced writers who produce quality work (leveraging tools such as Grammarly for grammar and spelling).
  4. All pieces published with us must follow Medium’s rules and quality guidelines. Please check out the comprehensive guide on writing, formatting, and submitting articles for further assistance with crafting your pieces.
  5. Alethiology exists to be a sanctuary for personal transformation narratives, therefore we strongly prefer the use of first-person voice. On rare occasions we may accept pieces written in different perspectives, provided they still maintain the essence of personal transformation.

What We Do Not Want

  1. Sterile, or otherwise quickly churned out pieces that anyone could have written, which are shallow in depth or power.
  2. Pieces written from an instructive voice or positioned as how-to’s or do this and get that. Anything that feels academic or listicle in nature. Anything written outside the first-person voice. Medium is brimming over with these posts, and we are looking to set ourselves apart by delivering uncompromising quality and depth.
  3. Pieces written in whole or part using the assistance of AI (Grammarly, Hemingway, and AI-generated photos are the only exceptions to this rule).
  4. Political, environmental, societal, or any other macro-type viewpoint or things relating only to the present time. We are interested in the timelessness of personal experience and the accompanying inner journeys and perspectives that impart something upon us.
  5. Long lists of tags, excessive links to other works, or requests to read, clap, or follow. Trust that consistent, quality work stands on its own and will organically achieve these aims. Focus instead on quality writing, meaningful stories, and beautiful aesthetics, trusting that if we deliver on those aims a dedicated following and readership will result.

What We Offer Our Writers

  1. The editorial team are Friends of Medium and we support our writers by engaging with their pieces through claps, comments, and monthly publication updates showcasing stellar pieces and new writers.
  2. Freedom to explore the full range of experiences, where the depths, darkness, and taboo aspects of self are honored and revered for their deep insights.
  3. We hope that by digging through your experiences and uncovering your truths, writing for us will become a valuable part of your journey in healing and growing, as much as it is a place to stretch your wings and fly through the liminal spaces of experience.
  4. A writing community in Discord to share knowledge, collaborate, and facilitate easy communication between editors and writers.
  5. By creating a brand known for quality, our goal is that our writers will also become synonymous with this quality.
  6. We are working to become a boost nominating publication to help foster visibility and exposure for our writers.

Submit a draft via email to [email protected]. We will review the submission and reply within 24–72 hours.

All accepted writers will also receive an invite to our Discord to facilitate conversations as a community.

Our Editorial Philosophy

We see writing as a deep extension of self and in this way, will not make any changes beyond a rare correction for comma use or misspellings. Choosing instead to respect the art and artist through dialogue. We will leave detailed feedback for our writers in the notes section indicating what if any changes are needed before we schedule it for publishing.

Editorial Process

  1. The editorial team will try to respond to all communications and submissions within 24–72 hours, although typically within 24 hours.
  2. We will evaluate for content, grammar, proper photo crediting, and alignment with the quality and values of Alethiology.
  3. We will leave commentary in the form of private notes for any changes we’d like you to consider before we publish. Please do not delete the notes, but instead respond to them, so that our editors can track completion.
  4. Use at least one of our Publication tags: Love, Life Lessons, Spirituality, or Poetry. This will allow us to feature each piece in an organized fashion on our Publication page. If you forget to do this, we reserve the right to change your tags to add an appropriate one.
  5. Each piece should have a minimum of one carefully selected and visually appealing photo that has been properly credited. Some resources for royalty-free images are Medium’s onboard image tool, Pexels, Pixabay, or Unsplash. Please be discerning about the number of photos used, while we do not limit the number used, we do ask that each one add value to the piece and be placed in such a way as to not overshadow content.
  6. Titles cannot promise something the piece won’t deliver or anything otherwise construed as clickbait.
  7. We do not have a word count minimum or maximum. We are more concerned about the quality of the piece than how long it is. That said pieces typically need to be at least four minutes in length for boosting (poetry excepted) and less than 12 minutes in length for maximum engagement potential here in the Mediumverse.
  8. We reserve the right to add or change tags if pieces are not submitted to us with one of our publication tags, and/or the piece is boosted by Medium curators, in which case we will change the last tag to “boosted”.

Who We Are

Tisha left behind a successful 24-year career in executive management to embark on a spiritual quest to find a deeper purpose and meaning for her life. On that journey, she discovered many truths that revealed her true calling and the purpose of the suffering she endured in her life. Today she is a full-time college student pursuing a midlife career change in full pursuit of those truths she discovered.

She’s been an avid and life-long reader. She cut her teeth in spoken word SLAM style poetry in the '90s and has had prior professional works published in the Scotsman Guide, an industry-leading print magazine for her former career sector. In a non-professional capacity, her poems have been published in print and online by the International Library of Poets.

She is a California native who loves to travel and test herself on adventures in the backcountry. When she is not grinding away at school or writing about the many facets of the human experience, she can be found kayaking, scuba diving, hiking, or meditating in a Buddhist monastery.

J.D. is an established writer, poet, and presence here in the Mediumverse, and has been writing on this platform since 2018. He has spent much of his life pursuing some version of truth as a Philosophy major in two of Manitoba’s universities. He continues to be enthralled by the Idea and ideas, endlessly captivated by the energy contained within them. In so many ways, he’s been a jack of all trades, M.A. of one. A former hairstylist, house painter, career student…he’s worn many hats and keeps them all around in case of a rainy day.

He has previously published outside of the online world but has found a comfortable place and thriving community on Medium. Formerly engaged in reading at and hosting spoken word events, he’s now more interested in pursuing activities such as ecstatic dance, breathwork, and yoga on a path towards transformation and greater understanding, living an embodied, conscious existence.

Thank you for your interest in the uncommon journey that is Alethiology. We look forward to creating magic together and supporting your work. This page will be updated as our guidelines and processes continue to evolve. Please check back periodically for updates.
