Have you ever found yourself trapped by your own mind? Walking to the edges and being unable to see past a mind loop is a rare gift.
This morning, I woke up from a beautiful dream about a Bird Man. I couldn’t get back to sleep and contemplated getting up early. My brain said, “Great idea!” but something deeper held me in bed.
Lying there, I wondered why I felt such resistance to getting up. A memory surfaced from my 16th year, spent in a maximum security girl’s prison called DCAF.

Prison sounds and feels like a harsh word. The barbed wire fence surrounding the yard, the automatic locking doors, and the scheduled bathroom times remind me that it was, indeed, a prison.

I remembered the lights turning on before daylight, the doors clicking open as they released from their magnetic locks, and that feeling of being so tired, but having no choice but to wake up.
