About Me — Starr Wynters
The opinionated feminist killjoy.
Hi! I began writing on Medium with the intention of finding my writing voice.
My hands first found a pen and paper when I was 10. I was the girl with her nose always in a book or writing in a journal. I was that quiet student who the teacher would pull aside and say, “This is really great, I bet you’re going to be a writer someday.” I bet most of us here have heard that from someone in our life at one point. Back then, I would write mostly diary-type entries, poetry about depression and suicidal ideation, and the beginnings of many stories that would never get an ending. Now, I tend to write about social issues that I am very passionate about. These topics include drug use, feminism, personal experiences, and mental health to name a few.
I am a mother to 2 crazy and amazing kids, a girl (8) and a boy (10). They have helped mold me into who I am today because without them I am pretty sure I would have given up on myself by now. I know having them in my life I have something to live for and they keep my feet on stable ground. I had nothing to call my own before I had them. I have a car, a career, and a sense of worth now, and it is because of them. They put that fire under me that keeps me going even when I am desperate to give up.
