Introducing AIFAQ: Our Mission and Problems We Solve

“I know the answer is in the docs somewhere, but I just can’t find it!”

It was a sentiment we’d heard countless times in community forums, support channels, and developer meetups. A frustrated developer had spent hours searching through hundreds of pages of blockchain documentation, trying to resolve what should have been a simple issue. Meanwhile, across the digital landscape, powerful AI assistants were answering questions instantly, but where was their information coming from, and could we trust it?

Roughly a year and a half ago, the Hyperledger Documentation Task Force began investigating how emerging technologies like AI could support developer documentation. While many were exploring the metaverse or generic AI assistants, AIFAQ focused on a more pressing and practical challenge: how to ensure the quality, accuracy, and accessibility of documentation knowledge for the open-source community.

What began as a simple prototype — an AI chatbot that answered frequently asked questions using only Hyperledger’s official documentation — quickly grew into something more. There were no external sources, no black-box models, just trusted, internal content used responsibly.

The turning point came through the Hyperledger Mentorship Program in 2023, where contributors from diverse backgrounds joined hands to transform this prototype into a robust open-source project. That project became AIFAQ.

What is AIFAQ?

AIFAQ (AI for FAQs) is an open-source conversational AI tool designed to answer questions within a specific context such as technical documentation, FAQs, or internal knowledge bases.

My Journey with AIFAQ

I’m currently in my fourth year of an Integrated Dual Degree program. I discovered AIFAQ in January 2025 while browsing for projects in the LFX Mentorship Program. That’s when I joined my very first AIFAQ weekly meeting.

I was nervous , stepping into a space with experienced professionals but that feeling didn’t last long. The mentors were kind, attentive, and made me feel instantly welcome. They listened to my introduction with genuine interest and introduced themselves with humility and warmth. Despite the obvious experience gap, I never felt out of place. They treated me like a peer. Since then, AIFAQ has become more than just a project to me. It’s a community, one that aims to make knowledge transparent, trustworthy, and accessible for all.
