Are You an Old Soul Searching for Your Soul Mate?

You’ve probably heard the term “Old Soul” before — but you may not be entirely sure what it means.

An Old Soul has lived many lives before this one and seems to possess a depth of wisdom beyond their years.

If you are an Old Soul, you likely profoundly understand yourself and the world around you. You’re on a quest to know more about life and what it really means to live. You’re drawn to mysticism, the unknown, and the divine.

You relish peace and harmony and work hard to maintain them. You have a strong sense of morals and ethics. You know who you are and what you stand for. Click here for my articles regarding ‘Core Values and an Authentic Life.’

It’s important to remember that the path of an Old Soul is one of love, wisdom, and continuous growth. It is a journey that transcends ‘time’ itself.

This article is part six of the series on Old Souls. Click here for all the previous articles.

OK, if you’re all set, let’s proceed with….

What it’s like being in a romantic relationship with an Old Soul.

When it comes to love, Old Souls are unique. They are like an old oak tree: impressive, reliable, solid, and strong. An Old Soul is likely to approach a love relationship in a way that’s different from the rest of the world. They may not be overly showy, but when they love you — oh, you’ll know it!

Old souls seem to have an innate maturity, which affects their love life. They go through life as if their eyes had seen much more than their years on this planet would permit.

Old Souls take things back to when love was simple and pure — no showing off or doing things just for “likes” on Instagram or Facebook.

In my last article, I presented five ways Old Souls show their love differently than you may be accustomed to (click here for that article).

Here are five more ways that Old Souls show their love:

1. They value quality time with you

An Old Soul will want to spend quality time that brings you closer together. Old souls are creative and will put a lot of thought into how you spend time with each other.

Rather than your usual dinner and a movie, an Old Soul will want to ensure you have a memorable date experience that will take things to the next level — whether going for a long walk in a beautiful natural setting or planning and cooking a romantic meal.

Also — even if it’s not something they usually enjoy — if an Old Soul knows you’ll appreciate it, they’ll do things with you that YOU enjoy. And while they might not always be up for showy events or lots of parties, they’ll endeavor to make such experiences memorable.

2. They perform acts of attentiveness

Old souls aren’t overly impressed by materialistic things. They understand there’s more to you than what you’re wearing or what car you’re driving. So, if you’re hoping for that new emerald necklace, keep wishing.

Old souls operate differently. When showing their love for you, they often do it through acts of attentiveness. You might only receive a simple gift on your birthday or flowers on Valentine’s Day — but that’s because they prefer to display their love through their everyday attentive efforts (large and small).

Whether taking on daily house chores or making sure your favorite coffee is always in the cupboard, these are the efforts of an attentive Old Soul. Here are some other examples:

  • They grocery shop for the items YOU need.
  • They put gas in YOUR car.
  • They scrape the icy windshield on YOUR car on a wintery morning.
  • They check in on YOU during a stressful day at work.
  • They sit in the waiting room while YOU are in for a physical checkup.
  • They pick YOU up from the airport (and they bring flowers!).
  • They plan a perfect vacation together.
  • They take care of YOU when you’re sick.

3. They are intuitive and can offer wise advice

Part of an Old Soul caring about you and providing acts of service includes taking time to listen to your problems and giving you good, sound advice that you can take to the bank.

Old Souls have strong intuition and insight. Intuition is that inner voice that guides a person. It’s that instinctual feeling that something is right or wrong without knowing how you know. Insight is seeing things clearly, even when hidden from plain view.

Old Souls deeply trust their inner voice and follow its guidance, as it serves as a compass through the intricacies of life. If you identify as an Old Soul, chances are good that your intuition and insight are two of your most potent guiding forces.

An Old Soul doesn’t ‘get a buzz’ from your life drama — and they will never advise you to do something careless or hasty. Instead, they’ll go ‘one-on-one’ with you to see how you’re doing and if they can help. And it might be a good idea to pay attention to what an Old Soul has to say.

4. They embrace your authenticity and want only the best for you

Another way an Old Soul shows love differently is by accepting a person entirely as they are — including their imperfections. An Old Soul will love every aspect of your being — even the parts you don’t much care about yourself.

In other words, an Old Soul will fall in love with your Soul. They don’t care how much money you make or if you’re Instagram gorgeous. They’ll accept you just as you are — and that’s how you know they love you.

As part of this caring, an Old Soul fully understands that their partner’s life journey is not automatically the same as their own. They know there are many ways to scale a mountain — each with obstacles and risks.

An Old Soul will support the person they love rather than hold them back. They will want to lift their partner up to be their best.

5. They appreciate the little things and the unspoken

If an Old Soul loves you, you might come to realize that they fully enjoy the small, seemingly insignificant things you do together. Perhaps enjoying a cup of coffee and talking about the latest book you’ve read. Or going for an early evening stroll together after your stressful day at work.

Also, be warned that Old Souls tend to be homebodies. For example, instead of going out partying on a wintery Friday night, they might prefer to stay home together — perhaps just sitting quietly (no conversation necessary) in front of a crackling fire and sharing a bottle of wine.

Whatever the simple shared activity, you’ll see an Old Soul’s appreciation for it — the way their face will light up and how they will thank you in their own unique way.

A Few Closing Thoughts

So, if you resonate with the contents of this article, it’s likely you are an Old Soul — or you are in a romantic relationship with someone who is.

From my experience, I’d say you’re fortunate. Old souls aren’t easy to come by. But when they do appear in your life, they’ll demonstrate their love in the most beautiful and simple ways — and that’s how it should be.

For an Old Soul, romantic love can be one of the many ways they passionately experience life. For example, they can also feel a deep connection with nature. An Old Soul might even turn their back on romantic love for a while because they find the drama and ego struggles are petty.

Old Souls tend to think about life as part of the ‘grand scheme’ of things. So be warned that an Old Soul might not be willing to settle down with you unless they believe the relationship has some future potential. They don’t do things on a whim or for no reason.

And finally, A romantic relationship with an Old Soul is not for everyone — it is, after all, a pairing of two Soulmates.
