Hygge (“hoo-gah”) is a Danish concept that embodies coziness, warmth and a deep sense of well-being. It’s about creating a comforting atmosphere, enjoying simple pleasures and fostering a sense of contentment. Hygge is the ultimate goal of interior design.

Key Elements & the Psychology of Hygge

Warm Lighting: Exposure to soft, warm lighting reduces stress, while harsh fluorescent lighting can increase anxiety. Natural light boosts serotonin and improves mood. Soft, warm lights, candles and fireplaces help create a cozy ambiance.

Comfortable Textures: Soft textures, like plush rugs and cozy furniture, provide comfort and security whereas, natural materials (i.e., wood and stone) create warmth and grounding. Use snuggly blankets, fluffy pillows and warm socks to enhance comfort!
