Doomscrolling, Procrastination, and Writer’s Block
How do you overcome all three?!
Writer’s block is the stuff of nightmares for authors everywhere. However, when the writer’s block is coupled with an unhealthy dose of procrastination it becomes even worse and difficult to overcome.
It wasn’t always that way with me. During middle school, high school, and even college, I never got writer’s block, though there was quite a bit of procrastination going on. In fact, I never did an outline and only wrote one draft of any paper or short story I was asked to write. I always got A’s on any paper and short story I submitted with just the first drafts being written. So, of course, those nasty habits followed me into adulthood as well.
I wrote my first novel in 2018 during NaNoWriMo. It was a 60k-word novel and came easily. I never planned, just sat down and the words poured out of my head, into my fingers, and onto the page. I edited as I wrote. Yes, I know you’re not supposed to, but what author actually follows those rules? If you do, feel free to tell me how you do it!
Was Cursed my best book? Certainly not! I’ve grown from there, but the writing was super easy. Fast forward to 2025, I’m now signed with two indie publishers, have two pen names, and a few books published.
