Tenerife on Strike

2 min readApr 18, 2025

The hospitality service is suffocating, and the hospitality service workers are on strike for two days. How do I know this? I’m right here in the middle.

Protesters in front of a hotel in Tenerife South

The Easter holidays have just started in Europe. Many of us are in vacation mode and enjoying the few days off, except those who work in hospitality. I was lucky that my parents invited me and my kids to Spain for a week.
To relax, to spend time together, and to make happy and long-lasting memories. Everything went smoothly and fine. They chose a four-star hotel, all-inclusive, and the first few days were like an episode from The White Lotus.

And then someone shot a gun — figuratively — and I found this paper in the elevator.

In the morning, we all got an early wake-up call with whistles, drums, honks, and people chanting in Spanish.

Their voice is loud and clear!

It made me happy to see all this. Got up and took a look around. The dining hall was a chaos, with paper plates, no warm food, and no service.

I grabbed a pen and my phone and wanted to find someone who could explain to me what was happening.
