The Toilet Bowl of Love

2 min readOct 13, 2023

Ahh! Love, an irresistible comfort that both relieves and causes distress in our daily lives, like a toilet bowl. It is a blinding, powerful feeling that overtakes all others in a moment of need. When found, overwhelming relief and content follow bringing one into a blissful state of happiness… but only for a second.

Love seems to find us most when we aren’t looking; at some random place like the supermarket. You lock eyes with that special someone and get butterflies in your stomach. You meet and know that you will return to meet again. For hours after this first encounter, you urge to seek them out, to sit again on the throne of love where you are relieved, for the duration of your stay together, of the rumbling in your stomach.

In relationships, we sometimes refer to the “honeymoon period”. A period of time when your relationship is peaceful and happy; without fault. As long as you make your daily visits, everything is peaceful. However, after a while, the “honeymoon period” swirls down the drain and the real nature of a relationship is revealed.

You move in together, and for the “adjustment period” you argue over silly things; toilet bowl up, toilet bowl down. Sometimes when you are frustrated, you just want to be listened to without response, your words swirl around and around draining themselves into the sewage of the mind. Other times, you want your words to lay still and fester in the fresh waters of your partner’s consciousness so that your words will forever taint their mind.
