The Greatness of Woman: In the Pages of History
The Story of Hazrat Hajra (R.A) and the Sa’i of Safa and Marwah.
To understand the greatness of woman, if we turn the pages of history, the mention of Hajra (R.A) emerges like a ray of light.
She was neither a military commander nor a political leader, yet her sacrifice, courage, and faith gave rise to an act that millions of Muslims repeat during Hajj and Umrah: the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah.
Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), following ALLAH’s command, left Hajra and their newborn son Ismail (peace be upon him) in the barren valley of Makkah. No tree, no water, no human being. But Hazrat Hajra had complete trust in ALLAH.
When the water ran out and the child began to cry from thirst, she ascended the hill of Safa in the anguish of a mother. Seeing no one, she ran towards Marwah. She ran back and forth between these two hills seven times, in search of ALLAH’s help.
This act was not merely a mother’s plea, but a magnificent example of a woman’s patience, resolve, and reliance on ALLAH.
ALLAH valued this act so highly that Muslims until the Day of Judgment will continue to commemorate it through the same Sa’i. The character of Hajra teaches us that if a woman wills, with devotion and courage, she can change the course of history.
