This spring, the southern front in Ukraine feels like a pressure cooker about to blow — Russian troops are cranking up the heat around Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, and everyone’s holding their breath.

On May 13, Vladyslav Voloshyn, the Southern Defense Forces spokesperson, warned that Moscow’s forces are throwing everything they’ve got — artillery barrages, kamikaze drones, guided aerial bombs, even old-school unguided missiles — to try to punch through toward the administrative border of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

Dnipropetrovsk itself is the industrial heartbeat of Ukraine — factories, rail yards, supply hubs — that’s never seen a single boot on its soil.

Yet every explosion in the sky and every rumble of artillery makes the threat feel a little closer.
