Chills. Goosebumps. Likely even some tears.

Certain events in life naturally invite that kind of visceral reaction for mothers everywhere.

The birth of your children. The moments of heartbreak and moving triumphs.

But also, this weekend’s all-star rap and hip-hop Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. When the NFL announced this lineup, there was a collective AW YEAH from a legion of 30 and 40-something moms in America. Maybe you heard me from my living room leading the charge.

Since then, my phone has been constantly dinging with texts from my mom friends throughout the country. We’ve temporarily shelved the usual texts of “Is this normal/Am I a bad mom” inquiries and suggestions on what to binge watch next. We have pivoted to all things halftime show like sharing hilarious memes, curating playlists, and recalling the memories evoked by the music from this period.

Because this is a big deal for us xennials: the cross-over generational sweet spot born between the late 70s and mid 80s that came of age during the golden era of music that…
