Different Perspectives: Controversy After the Opening Ceremony

After the live broadcast of the opening ceremony, the media was bombarded with reactions. Much of the content pushed by big data was about the audience’s misunderstanding of the opening ceremony. Regarding cultural conflicts, I am writing this article from the perspective of someone who has lived in France.

Clash of Values

After the opening ceremony, many netizens expressed their inability to understand the performances, including the representation of LGBTQ groups, the scene where three people enter a room together, and a bearded man dancing in a skirt. Some netizens even criticized the POB(Paris Opera Ballet) principal dancer’s footwork as unclean. For some audiences, these were the only aspects they could see, missing out on the messages of gender inclusion, racial inclusion, and the inclusion of minority groups that some artistic works aim to convey.
