Upcycling old furniture with chalk paint is a cheap and fun way to make something old look new again. You don’t need to sand or prep much; just grab some paint and get going. This tutorial shows you how to turn a boring wooden side table into something cool with chalk paint. Let’s do this.

What You’ll Need
Chalk paint, any brand, like Annie Sloan, in a color you like
Clear wax or sealant to protect it
Two paintbrushes, one for paint, one for wax
Clean cloth that doesn’t leave lint
Old newspaper or a tarp

Optional: sandpaper, if you want a worn look, stencils, or painter’s tape

Step 1: Get Your Furniture Ready
Pick a piece that’s solid but looks dated, like a scratched up side table. Wash it with soap and water to get rid of dirt or grease, then let it dry. Put down newspaper or a tarp to keep your floor clean.
