Behind the Apartment Walls: David Berkowitz, Satanism, and the Zodiac of Chaos

When examining the walls of David Berkowitz’s apartment, the viewer of the writing on the walls unravels the complex narrative of the Sons of Sam crimes and of a man and who was plagued by the occult and demonic possession. The setting of David Berkowitz’s apartment serves as a reminder of how someone who can appear completely normal in everyday life can truly be an enigma; the enigma is revealed through the anti social behaviors of the crimes and the hidden darkness of the writing on the walls, reflecting the turmoil and the psychological mind play of those who wrote the words. The walls welcome criminologists to explore the hidden psychological implications of the Sons of Sam crimes and those interested in advancing the solving of crimes like these in the future.
This blog will analyze the writing and notes left on the walls of David Berkowitz’s apartment, found by investigators upon his arrest on 10-Aug-1977.
“Hi my name is Mr. Williams and I live in this hole”
1) The name “Williams” means “resolute protector”
2) The name “Carr” means “spear”
3) Both prior words roughly translate to protection (spears offer protection)
4) Clustermaps shows that a translation or transliteration for the name “Carr” is “Williams”
5) Translation roughly means to express the sense of the word in another language or to transfer or turn from one set of symbols into another (meanings changing letters)
6) Therefore, to solve, convert Mr. Williams to Mr. Carr because both words have a similar underlying meaning
7) Because Mr. Carr is likely Sam Carr convert Sam to “X”
8) Sam is converted to X because Samael, per Aleister Crowley’s Liber 777, is the equivalent to Satan and “X” is a symbol for Satan
9) Place “X” in the hole, because Mr. Williams lives in the hole and a hole (zero) with an “X” in the middle of it is the same as the Zodiac symbol, Theta symbol, and Aleister Crowley’s squaring the circle
“I have several children I’m turning into killers. Wait until they grow up”
1) Because this sentence follows “Mr. Williams,” it would logically mean Sam Carr
2) Several means more than two but fewer than many or roughly three to five
3) Sam Carr had three children: John Carr, Wheat Carr, and Michael Carr
“My neighbors I have no respect for, and I treat like shit. Sincerely, Mr. Williams”
1) Again, substitute Sam Carr for Mr. Williams
2) Sam Carr had a history of disputes with people in his neighborhood, so it is reasonable to conclude Mr. Williams is Sam Carr
Wicker Notes On The Wall
1) This is also a reference to Wicked King Wicker which is a moniker in the Breslin letter
2) Alternative names for Samael in the Book of Isaiah include Melikira, Malkira, Belkira, and Bechira
3) Melkira means, “king of the wicked”
4) Malkira means, “messenger of evil”
5) Belkira or Baal Qir means, “lord of the wall”
6) Bechira means, “elect/chosen of evil”
The conclusion is the note on the wall is used as a complicated metaphor as well as dark satire for Samael or “king of the wicked” and “lord of the wall”.
Killer Circled on Note
1) Kill is the same as death
2) The symbol for death is “X”
3) Place the “X” inside of the circle and it is the same as the Zodiac symbol, Theta symbol, and Aleister Crowley squaring the circle
Conclusion
It was often argued by many writers that the Sons of Sam crimes were influenced and connected to the Zodiac killings in California. Due to the repeated Zodiac symbolism, the author believes it is worth examining whether the crimes are tied to California, as people David Berkowitz was criminally associated with were relocating to California following his arrest. It is also worth examining if the names of victims were chosen for symbolism much like Mr. Williams in order to determine if there is a pattern.
Some have argued that David Berkowitz had a neighbor named Williams, but context is important when examining any type of writing. David Berkowitz lived by a Mrs. Williams. The Carr family has been dominant in the case since 1977, and it would be logical to incorporate the Carr name on the wall much like the monikers in the Breslin letter that have been attributed to Carr family members. Moreover, Maury Terry’s research with David Berkowitz argued that he was not the only person who wrote on the walls of his apartment.
