Why Do We Dream: Exploring the Mysteries of our Subconscious Mind.

The focus of many a human’s wondering, dreams provide glimpses into the haziness of the human subconscious that have captivated people for centuries. We devote a good chunk of our lives to slumbering and we dream up fiery or bizarre images, scenes and emotions without a good idea of what they mean. Psychologists and researchers have pondered for decades why we dream, and what our nighttime treks teach us about our psyche.

Psychological Perspective

One of the earlier explorations of the subject of dream theory was by the Father of Psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, who argued that dreams are day residue — manifestations of the repressed desire and the subconscious. His theory emphasizes the symbolic nature of dreams, in which each image or action in a dream is linked to unprocessed emotion or unresolved conflict. Another influential figure, Carl Jung, posited that the core of dream is equilibrium between the conscious and the subconscious, and that it got a glimpse into aspects of personal growth and development.
