GOP to Seniors, et al: It Would Be in Good Taste for You to Just Croak

Some years ago, then-Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Florida, offered what he understood to be the Republican Party’s answer to President Barack Obama’s proposed Affordable Care Act. The GOP kept saying it had a health plan (sound familiar?), and Grayson summed up that plan in a way that stands the test of time. It still appears to be the Republican plan for seniors, the disabled, poor people and anyone with the poor taste to need something.

The , Grayson said, was, “Don’t get sick.”

If you do get sick? “Die quickly.”

Harsh.

Then and now, very harsh. But honestly, what else do they have?

The Trump administration has enacted drastic cuts to the Social Security Administration, which anyone with two brain cells to rub together can tell you is their backdoor way of gutting the agency. It’s the usual drill: render it inoperable/lousy, say it’s ruined/lousy, strip it for parts and let private equity buy it at firesale prices. It will still be lousy but the investors will do OK.

Already the wheels have started coming off at the SSA after deep staff reductions by Elon Musk’s DOGE. Due to DOGE closing field and hearing offices, seniors, disabled people and others — especially those in rural areas — will find…
