Forget What They Told You About Writing As a Beginner
My brutally honest advice for any aspiring writer and content creator
You’ve undoubtedly heard it before: in order to be a good writer, you must first discover your voice. Find a specialty. Determine your niche. Write what you know best. Create an audience and focus on servicing them. Think about what people desire, etc.
But here’s the truth: if you’re a newbie writer, don’t worry about niches or audiences. Because, guess what? You will not have either. And forget about creating a steady income straight away.
Trust me on this.
Hope Is Not A Strategy
For the first several months, or perhaps years, things will be chaotic, unclear, and irritating. You may not want to believe this, but it is certainly real.
Every single morning, you will write and edit. You will check alerts repeatedly. If you’re on Medium, like me, you’ll update your story analytics every hour in the hopes of increasing your viewership or followers.
However, nothing changes.
Your earnings remain stagnant at $2.44, without even rising to $2.45. Your followers stay at 134 rather than 135.
