Why I Don’t Read Self-Help Books

Look, I’m not against self-development. Really, I’m not. Grow, heal, evolve, write a journal under a full moon and stars if that's your thing. I want to be a better person, too.

But if you gift me another pastel-colored book with the words “Atomic Habits for Highly Spiritual Millionaire Monk Thinkers Who Wake Up at 5 AM to Save the World,” I will use it as a coaster or……a weapon.

This books talk about “manifesting abundance” while I’m over here manifesting enough coins so my card doesn’t decline at the checkout. They say, “You just have to believe in yourself.”
Bro, I once believed in myself, and that was my biggest mistake.

So here’s why I ditched those books and am still doing fine.

1. Idealistic Lifestyles Written By People Living in a Wellness Spa

It’s not that I am against self-help books. It’s just that these books aren’t written for someone like me. They’re written by ex-CEOs turned influencers who now live in Bali, drink lemon water or eat salad for fun, and practice yoga with goats.

These are people with personal chefs, therapists, business coaches, spiritual guides, and seven streams of passive income — all…
