The Power of Vulnerability: Why True Friendship Matters

A Moment of Doubt

Recently, I watched a drama where one of the main female characters was a mother of four. She spent every waking moment taking care of her children, rarely having time to rest. Despite her dedication, she constantly felt she wasn’t doing enough – not being a “good mother.”

One day, overwhelmed and exhausted, she left her children with a trusted neighbor and ran to an open field. There, with no one around, she collapsed onto the grass and cried. Doubt consumed her. Why can other mothers do it well, but I can’t? she wondered.

When her friends found her, she finally voiced her fears: I’m not a good mother. But instead of offering the usual platitudes or comparisons, her friends responded with their own raw and honest struggles. They shared their moments of failure, helplessness, and self-doubt.

In that instant, she felt an enormous weight lift from her shoulders. She relaxed. She wasn’t alone.

“Why don’t we talk about this more?” she asked. “I need to hear these things. It makes me feel less alone.”
