The Man Bond — How the Forge movie highlights the power of brotherhood.
— The movie by Kendrick Brothers
In the notable Forge Movie, Isaiah Wright’s mother — Cynthia Wright wanted her son to be a man who would. live up to his responsibilities.
However, playing the mother and father roles didn’t come easy.
Isaiah needed a fatherly figure — a good replacement for his biological father, who had failed them.
Cynthia Wright got frustrated with her son’s obsession with video games and. her words echoed it-
“You are my son but I’m giving you one month to find a job or you can find one of your little friends that’s going to let you sleep on their couch for free.”
One month was the ultimatum she gave him but was 19 year old Isaiah ready to be a man?
The Male Bond and Mentorship
Isaiah beat his ultimatum of having a job within a month with the help of Joshua Moore, the CEO of Moore fitness company.
Joshua Moore was determined to shape him into a man.
Joshua explained that a big part of becoming a man was to show up and inquired if Isaiah was ready to show up as one.
He brought him into a fellowship of brothers termed as the forge.
He explained that the men needed this fellowship to pray, study God’s word and grow strong godly values.
Asides the other lessons he taught him on being a confident and respectful man, this brotherly fellowship was the bond Isaiah needed to forge the positive and godly man in him.
The Actions That Birthed the Bond
Cynthia, though she gave her son an ultimatum to get a job, did not just abandon him.
She called for prayer support to help pray for him.
She admitted that it was difficult to call out the man in her son and sought the support of her prayer group.
She understood that she needed God and all the support she could get from her prayer group in order to foster a lasting change in her son’s life.
This highlights that In addition to wishing, she took actions that invited the hand of God — to handle the situation she couldn’t handle all by herself.
It also reminds me of the scriptures,
The relevance of the Man bond
In our society today, most young males don’t understand what it means to be a man.
They waste time engaging in harmful vices as stealing, smoking, rape and all sorts of atrocities.
This is an indication that they need strong and positive male mentors and role models in their lives.
They need men who have succeeded in themselves to hold their hands and guide them in the right path.
They need more fathers and brothers to show them how to be a man.
The more we emphasize the importance of these kinds of bonds, the more we would save those males that need saving.
