On This Gloomy Day,

This world can seem so harsh at times,
with wars raging across the globe…
it isn’t easy to keep a scorecard
of who is winning or losing.

But are there really any winners in war?

Dividing lines are drawn in the sand,
determining where your political beliefs lie,
forcing you to choose one side or the other.

What happened to the biblical saying,
“Love thy neighbor”?
It often seems to be lost among
Grandma’s old mementos,
covered in dust.

Today was another gloomy, gray day…
Day two of continuous rain.
I didn’t wake up feeling very energetic,
wanting simply to roll over
and pull the sheets over my head.
But there were tasks to get accomplished,
so I pushed myself out the front door
to start checking items off my to-do list.

First stop, in between jumping over puddles,
was a stop at the grocery store.
Yes, that’s the place that seems…
