Yes the world is changing. But, is it?
You don’t even need to dig deep. It’s right there in everyday conversations, TV shows, porn categories, and memes. It’s in the way straight men talk about “hot lesbians” like they’re ordering a fantasy, and in the way gay men are mocked in school hallways, sitcoms, and WhatsApp jokes.
There’s a clear double standard. And it’s not random.
So the biggest reason for this can be that the patriarchal culture views sexuality through the male gaze. Still.
Lesbianism is often fetishized because it's perceived as erotic or performative for men—not as a valid, autonomous sexual identity. Meanwhile, gay men are seen as threatening to masculinity because they reject traditional male dominance and don’t cater to women—or men—within the "expected" power structures.
