I Unfollow You — And Here’s Why
Not all voices are meant to stay in your feed
I used to follow a lot of writers — some for their wisdom, others for their voice. But then I realized something: not all of them were helping me get better.
Some simply kept dishing out the same superficial tips. Others transitioned from writing truths to pandering to trends. Their words used to inspire me, but now they sounded insincere.
So I unfollowed them.
Not because I resented them. Not because I was pompous. Simply because they were in misalignment.
My time is precious. My focus is scarce. And I’d prefer to devote it to voices that disagree with me, instruct me, or at least evoke in me something tangible.
It’s okay to grow up from voices that previously stirred you.
Development requires learning how to choose better — and sometimes, to choose fewer things.
I get to wonder about one simple thing: Why do we follow somebody?
Somehow, most of the time, it comes down to two reasons — either we learn something from them, or we just like what they post. If a writer neither teaches nor inspires, then why follow them?
