How To Take Back Your Life Without Feeling Overwhelmed
What is it about January that makes so many of us feel like we are slowly losing control over our lives?
The social gatherings slow down, work picks up again and I often feel a tinge of sadness knowing the time for celebration has ended. January then becomes a time of recluse and rumination on all that matters in this world. It can easily be a time of overwhelm because it often comes with a pinch of guilt of not feeling like you are enough or have done enough in the past year. I felt this too for many years till I changed the way I looked at my life and my goals. I realized that being overwhelmed isn’t a bad thing, especially if I had a plan.
Most things in life don’t happen in a year.
Give Yourself Enough Time
I used to make the mistake of writing down huge goals and expecting them to happen in a year. Although I think all goals are realistic if you truly work to make them happen, one year isn’t a lot of time to give yourself. Especially if you are banking on your goals and habits compounding. Instead of getting overwhelmed by bigger goals, break it up into chunks to achieve over the next 3–5 years. It’s much easier to hit that target without feeling overwhelmed and you’ll find that you don’t rush your efforts either.
