How Body Keeps The Score
Trauma responses I experience too often
I opened my puffy eyes, looking at the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen. The colours were bright, deep, and… moving. I could see the sun rays touching the skies, and melting with the clouds. The view so beautiful, that my eyes started to water again. Tears dripping down my cheeks. I could feel their salty taste on my lips.
I was on mushrooms. Knowing I was in a controlled space with a licensed host of the event. On my left was a guy gaping at the same sunset I was looking at, and on my right a girl laughed and cried at the same time.
But the sunset (even though the most beautiful thing I have seen) had not been the most important part of this experience — it was the release of trauma, understanding of it, and letting my body go.
This was the day when I started healing on a deeper level. One that conventional therapy never provided.
While I will not encourage you to the same experience I had — I want to discuss how our bodies keep the score and how the effects of trauma can go unnoticed. They are most definitely not discussed enough.
