Exploring Gendered narratives of emotional expression: Gender Performativity Theory

I am working on a research paper nowadays, so today I am going to write about my research. My research topic is “ Exploring Gendered Narratives in Emotional Expression: Gender Performativity Theory”.

Research questions

1 How do men and women differ in their language patterns when expressing their emotions in personal narratives.

2 How do men and women’s use of emotional vocabulary in their personal narratives reflects their gender identity in light of gender performativity theory.

Theoretical framework

I am using Judith Butler’s theory of “ Gender Performativity” .According to this theory gender is not an innate characteristic or biological construction, it is a performative act that is constructed by societal expectations. I have already written a post about difference between gender and sex. But in this post i am properly using a theoretical framework to proof this stance.

These questions are designed to explore the strategies used by males and females in their narratives and how these strategies shape their gender identities. This study examines the relationship between gender, emotion and language.
