Confronting Your Assumptions: The Key to Self-Awareness

--

Source:

“An assumption is anything for which you don’t have proof.(Deborah Munhoz)

Taking inspiration from Deborah, I’d like to start by saying: “When you assume something, the first thing you need to do is question your assumption. The best way to do this is to ask yourself why, and then see if your answer after the word ‘because’ makes sense.” This is actually a very important thing because ”assumptions can either make or break your life.” (Samira Holma)

Breaking the Assumption Trap: Why People Aren’t as Weird as You Think

By making assumptions about people, we might unfairly judge them without truly getting to know who they are. Prejudices or stereotypes can easily lead us to misjudge others. You expect someone to act the way you would, and when they do the opposite — boom — suddenly they seem like such a weird person, right? But that’s not the case at all.

Cultural background, social environment, family, school, and countless other factors shape people in many different ways, and it doesn’t always have the same effect on everyone. Or maybe, they’ve just had a bad day. You lose nothing by being empathetic rather than judgmental.
