Confronting the Legacy of Abuse in Parenting

My trauma likes to tell me that hitting my kid would be easier because it would be a quick way to take back control.

I know this is from the truth.

Our kids' big emotions can easily control spaces, and earning compliance can be hard to imagine without parents who modeled that.

I didn’t have positive parenting examples growing up in the foster care system. However, in today’s world of advanced technology and greater access to information, it would be disingenuous for any parent to ignore the concerning the detrimental effects of physical abuse, including spanking, hitting, and corporal punishment, on our children.

There are enough resources to educate ourselves and improve our parenting techniques and processes.

Children are one of the in the world and I hope you think about this article next time you interact with a child.
