Break It Down: How 3-Month Goals Transformed My Writing Life

A few months ago, I found myself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of ideas and drafts loitering at my desk. Novels, academic papers, short stories, screenplays — they all needed my attention to exist, but I had no system to focus my efforts.

Feeling hopeless, I decided to break it down B and, influenced by my work in corporate communications, organize my personal creative work by quarter.

The result is this simple Google Doc, which you’re free to copy and customize.

Results

So from the first quarter, I’d say I reached 50% of my goals.

Of my eight major projects, I completed two.

That may seem like a huge letdown, but I am proud of what I accomplished because I learned a lot…
