Why I Chose Writing with Meaning Over Writing for Growth
Success evolves
I set a goal to publish 5–7 articles weekly during my initial writing days to improve online visibility and grow my email list.
It worked, but it drained my creative energy.
The Hidden Cost of High Volume
I did not know the side effects of publishing.
- It was becoming a mechanical process without any fun or excitement
- I forgot to understand why I was writing
Writing became meaningless after some time.
I decided to slow down.
Rediscovering Joy in Slowing Down
Below is my weekly writing schedule.
- 5–7 Medium articles
- 5–10 Substack notes
- 1 newsletter
It looks simple, but it requires a lot of effort. So, I reduced the writing volume.
Now, below is my weekly writing schedule.
- 2 Medium articles (one short form and one long form)
- 1 newsletter
- 2 Substack notes
It has rejuvenated the joy of writing and creative excitement.
Initially, slowing down was uncomfortable, but it has given me many benefits.
I have learned to think clearly about what I want to do with writing and how to generate revenue that will be sustainable with my authenticity. Daily, I write for 30–40 minutes on the topics I realized after slowing down. It serves two purposes.
- I get clarity of thought
- I can maintain my daily writing routine
I no longer have to push myself to write every day — writing flows as a by-product of my effort to think clearly.
Reframing What Success Looks Like
Success evolves. Two years ago, I saw success by publishing five to seven articles each week. Today, I define it as feeling joy and excitement in writing.
If the rising content stats take away the creative joy from me, it’s not a success for me.
Previously, I wrote multiple 150-word short-form content to maintain the writing volume. It was at the cost of cutting down all the necessary details.
Use short-form content to capture an idea quickly; use long-form content to deep dive and explain it fully.
It is a joy to write all the information in one article so that the reader finds everything they need to know in one place.
If you are a beginner writer, focus on topics that interest you. Find a writing schedule that maintains both your creative fun and writing consistency.
