I read this book two years ago, and my perception of work has changed forever since then.
I always believed that the more, the merrier when it comes to work. However, this book gave me a new definition of work and changed my views on how the brain works.
I suffered a lot in medical school. I had to retake my exams on many occasions. I thought I wasn’t talented.
When it is true that I was not a gifted memorizer of information, I also lacked the idea of focused work.
In my first one and a half years, I tried to study all the time. Since medical students need to learn and memorize a lot of info, I thought this was the only way to go.
I didn’t create the right environment, rest enough, or find a work-life balance. I used to sleep only 5 hours and try to study the rest of the time.
Failure in the first professional exam left me with disbelief. I wondered how I would survive medical school if I couldn’t pass my exam with this much hard work? I lost enthusiasm and almost gave up on my studies…
