YOU ARE HOME
May Prompt: The Hope Jar
What I hold in my hope jar
are sweet little moments life quietly passed.
Among them are the moments when,
amidst chaos, I found my calm—
when I touched your little palm.
For the first time, I felt my strength and might.
Oh, you made my life so bright.
I didn’t know I had so much love in my heart
until I heard yours beat so fast.
Only when you touched me for the first time, my boy,
did I learn that tears can truly express joy.
Holding your tiny finger as you learned to walk—
a moment I will cherish, more than words can talk.
Telling you to listen to the raindrops,
then watching you sway,
those are the pennies I will wrap in silk and tuck away.
They are for our eyes alone to find on quiet days.
I know birds are left with empty nests,
but you know—we have built one of the best.
Your dad and I will have so much to hold on to,
even as you spread your wings and be gone.
On days, our tiny bird will return,
coloring our branches with stories you have learned.
And as parents, we will be all ears.
Because though you have taken flight,
we will be here with open arms,
a quiet place that will always be warm.
May you chase the sky,
with dreams that stretch and soar.
Go, get, giggle, and glow—
the world is yours to explore.
And, in your heart of hearts, you will know: You are home, because
what is ours is forevermore.
Thanks for the prompt. It gave me a chance to write my heart for my 10 years old son.
