May Prompt: The Hope Jar
Liana went to the ruins of what once was her school. Fighting a war comes with consequences.
In a secluded corner, she dug soil to bury her tattered doll but found an old jar inside.
The jar contained 365 paper slips, each with a handwritten message.
“The sun will shine again.” — Day 1.
Liana was sad, but the message filled her with hope.
She began reading one note everyday. The messages were simple and strangely accurate.
“You’ll find colour today.”
That day, wildflowers bloomed in the crater formed after a blast.
“Trust the man with the scar.”
A wounded soldier carried her to safety after an explosion near her house.
Word of the notes spread. Neighbors gathered to listen.
With each message, something changed.
Her lost pet returned.
It rained bringing relief from heat.
Care packages dropped from the sky.
The town, struggling with despair, began to feel hopeful again.
