How I Doubled My Distance, Silenced My Doubts, and What Two Street Corners Taught Me About Runner’s Pride.
There’s an old saying: “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky at morning, sailor take warning.” A red sky in the morning is supposed to mean a storm is coming. But lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m the red sky, and in this case, the warning isn’t for bad weather. It’s for everyone who continues to underestimate me — especially past versions of myself.
It has been far too long since my last update. Where should I start? Well, I’ll start by apologising for not giving you an update sooner. My day job has been crazy, and I’ve had to make choices. But, I’m not ashamed to say I kept up with my training at the expense of some writing.
And it has been a great training block!
When I last reported, I had completed the “couch to 5k” program and could confidently run 5k. I mentioned at that time that I was increasing my distances. I realized that 5k was far from a marathon, but I had a mental mindset that would let me get to where I needed to be.
