I lost 15 lbs. in Four Months Just from Walking
And here’s how you can, too.
Walking is the most underrated form of exercise.
For years, when I did have time to exercise, I always sought out activities that made me sweat, like running, lifting weights, or a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout class. However, I would only have the time and energy to go twice a week, and it was hard for me to stay consistent.
Having to rush home after work, change clothes, drive across town in rush hour traffic to a gym or class, and then come home, shower, and cook dinner was honestly more exhausting than my workouts were.
In 2022, when I first got sober, my anxiety was at an all-time high. I worked a full-time desk job, and it became more challenging for me to sit and focus with all the thoughts and feelings I was dealing with in my personal life. One of the coping mechanisms my therapist and I came up with when I was overwhelmed and anxious was going for a walk.
“Even if it is just a quick five-minute walk around your building,” she would remind me. “Moving your body, feeling the sun on your face, and breathing fresh air will make you feel better.”
