Sheffield Author now Fully Relocated as Local Aberdeenshire Writer …

High Summer on the Aberdeenshire Coast ~ marking a year of living here ~ photo by author

Just over a year since my partner and I moved to this beautiful part of the South Aberdeenshire coast and the landscape has come full circle. With the rippling gold of the soon-to-be-harvested fields of barley, the vibrant green of still-to-be-identified vegetable crops, and the strip of deep Mediterranean blue sea in the distance, I am reminded of the first days of our adventure, settling into an environment radically different to the city I lived in for nearly forty years.

In the first of my series, Sheffield Author Relocates to Aberdeenshire Coast, I described how my move coincided with the publication of my debut novel, , leading me feeling somewhat dislocated as I promoted my novel as a Sheffield author. Not only did I write the book in Sheffield, but it was also the starting place for the novel, featuring a Sheffield teenager setting off to Scotland to find his sperm-donor father. My writing support network was all based in Sheffield, and although much of the book was set in Scotland, it was centred around the North West coast, so not even local to where I now live. After at the end of September and placing copies in local author sections of independent bookshops there, I came back to my new home unsure of how I could now relocate myself as a local writer.
