Sí Se Puede: A Mexican-American Journey in Madrid
Hi, Hola! My Name is Jessica Iniguez — or as I like to say, Yes-I-Can
Hello and welcome to my little corner of the internet! I’m Jessica Iniguez — though, if you say it in Spanish, it sounds like Yessica. It’s a fun little twist on my name that has become a part of my identity. And while that might seem like a small detail, for me, it perfectly captures a mindset that has carried me through some of the most interesting chapters of my life: Yes-I-Can.
You see, Yessica isn’t just how my name sounds in Spanish; it’s a reminder of something deeper. It’s a little affirmation I repeat to myself whenever I’m faced with something challenging or unfamiliar. It’s my own personal mantra — because, honestly, what else can you do when life asks you to take a leap? The answer, at least for me, is simple: Yes. I. Can.
Let me rewind a bit and tell you how this all started.
I’m Mexican-American, born and raised in the U.S., but with roots that run deep in Mexico. And in 2019, I made a decision that felt like jumping off a cliff — I moved to Madrid. Sí, you read that right — I packed up my life, left my familia, said goodbye to my friends, and headed to Spain, not knowing what was coming.
But then I remembered something: Yes-I-Can.
