Meeting Toya on a Small Mediterranean Island Made My Day
A random chat took me to an unexpected place
“This is delicious,” Moon said after gulping a mouthful of dal, sabzi and tandoori roti. “I didn’t quite expect to find such good Indian food on this small island”.
After spending a week on the island of Gozo, a part of the Maltese archipelago, our palates were badly itching for some Indian food. After some searching, we found a restaurant in a town called Marsalforn that stood on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
Moon, munching joyfully, continued, “It’s amazing how we are everywhere. Once, someone found a hotel in a part of the Swiss Alps where no other humans resided. It was run by a family from Punjab. The owner of this restaurant is also a Punjabi guy”.
Dipping a piece of my naan into the butter paneer, I said, “We seldom find anyone from Assam in such places, though. It’s always someone from the popular places like Punjab, Mumbai, Hyderabad or Delhi, but seldom from the eastern region,” I said.
