I’m not a frugal person, not even close. I don’t believe minimalism or ancient lifestyles suit everyone either. Yet, I can’t help but wonder: what are we selling our souls for?
We go out, we work, we buy things, and we return home. Then we face a pile of unpaid bills or annoying phone alerts reminding us to pay off our credit cards or suggesting we take a loan… as if.
Being a twenty-something (+6) is tough business. You grow from believing you could conquer the world and achieve everything you wanted in life to the startling realization that, in the end, everything is about money, no matter how nonsensical it seems.
This ‘I owe you note’ has effectively ended up owning us. From the minute this godforsaken piece of paper took over, our fate was sealed. We had agreed, willingly or not, that our freedom would be replaced by a relentless drive to accumulate, and accumulate, without pausing to ask why — solely because we had to, we have to.
