A few months back I wrote about the state of the MCU and referenced the return of Robert Downey Jr. as the next big villain, Doctor Doom. It’s no secret that this was not the plan all along for the Multiverse Saga; Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) was poised to be the main antagonist for this era, but we all know what happened.
The decision to bring back RDJ as Dr. Doom was met with a divisive public opinion. Many were excited, and rightly so, as he arguably cemented the MCU in the first place, while others (including myself) found this move a bit panicky, and a last-ditch-effort to salvage a sinking ship.
Arguably the MCU has fallen from its previous glory. There are still bright examples to be found, such as the enjoyable Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) or Agatha All Along (2024), but overall the studio can’t seem to catch a break, either critically or commercially.
